Anybody that thinks that Paul Pogba is the problem, virus or cancer at Manchester United needs to take a long hard look at themselves. This is a guy that played for us from the age of 15/16 in the academy and left because he realised he was miles down the pecking order.
He spends a triumphant 4 years trophy laden years in Juventus then comes back to his ‘Spiritual’ home as the most expensive player in the history of the game in a huge fanfare in 2016. This is where my main point begins, because at the time he was playing during his time at Juventus in a midfield with players such as Sami Khedira, Andrea Pirlo to name but a few. Does anyone seriously think that during his negotiations to return back to the club he was told he would be playing in a midfield with Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Fred. There’s plenty of you shaking your heads now blaming his agent saying he came to get them both a big pay packet, but I don’t believe this for one minute.
Imagine the negotiations, he’s coming back to one of the biggest and richest clubs in the world. Being told they they will build not just the midfield but the whole team around him. Promises about the money that will be spent on new acquisitions and a list of players we will be buying, ultimately though it’s all rubbish. Instead of being in a team challenging for the Premier League he’s in a team where 2nd was lauded as a magnificent achievement surrounded by players, none of which are near his level.
Ultimately I think PP has been sold the lie that all of us have been by the owners, except for him these are the prime years of his life playing for a team with no identity or direction. Is it any wonder that his agent, vile man that he is has said that ‘It’s not the project he thought it would be’ The narrative of Pogba the virus definitely comes from the owners, they want him gone because they won’t spend any of the clubs money to fund a rebuild and he is there only chance of injecting funds back into the team. He’s being made a scapegoat but I guarantee he’ll be ripping up trees at another club soon and we’ll realise what could have been.
